Keeps: the bestiary, the geography and an enormous amount of the novel’s texture, down to characters most adaptations never reach.
Changes: the timeline. This is set after the journey, with the player as a successor rather than Monkey himself, and it assumes you know the source.

Game Science’s own release, 19 August 2024, on PC — dozens of hours, and no story expansion has ever shipped.

No, but the game assumes the story rather than telling it — it is set after the pilgrimage ends. Anything on this list will fill the gap; Lovell's Monkey King is the fastest, and Havoc in Heaven covers the part of the myth the game leans on hardest.
Does Black Myth: Wukong have story DLC?
No story expansion has ever shipped. Game Science's own announcement history contains none, and the two paid add-ons on the store are a Deluxe cosmetic upgrade and a soundtrack. The largest addition since launch was the free Challenge and Journeyer's Chart update.
