Moriarty the Patriot (manga, VIZ, 2020–)

The villain’s side: young William Moriarty against Britain’s class system.

Moriarty barely appears in the canon, which leaves room to make him the hero of his own story.

You have always found the villain more interesting, and a long manga run is a pleasure rather than a chore.

What it keeps and what it changes

Keeps: Holmes as the adversary, the late-Victorian setting, and the Final Problem.
Changes: the moral centre. A Moriarty household that took in two orphans sets out to punish corrupt aristocrats, and the series asks whether that makes them heroes or monsters.

Whose story is it?

Moriarty’s.

How much time does it ask?

Volume 1 is 208 pages; VIZ publishes volume 20 on 27 August 2026, with a 21st announced for January 2027.

Story by Ryosuke Takeuchi, art by Hikaru Miyoshi.
