Castlevania (2017–2021)
Dracula declares war on Wallachia after a bishop has his wife burned as a witch.
Give the Count a reason — grief — and let the war he starts take four seasons to end.
You want an animated series with a Dracula you are afraid of and sorry for.
What it keeps and what it changes
Keeps: Dracula, his son Alucard, and the Belmont family of hunters from Konami’s games.
Changes: everything Stoker wrote. This descends from the games, not the novel.
Whose story is it?
Trevor Belmont’s, Sypha’s and Alucard’s — and Dracula’s, whose grief drives all of it.
How much time does it ask?
Four seasons, complete. A follow-up series, Castlevania: Nocturne, has two seasons and no announced third.
A Netflix series, 2017–2021, four seasons; Richard Armitage voices Trevor Belmont. Warner Home Video has put all four seasons out on disc.
